Mobile Dispatch

With Mobile Dispatch you can handle your jobs in a web browser on any smartphone or tablet. Mobile Dispatch is an extension to the Dispatch plugin. The Dispatch plugin is used to dispatch jobs to mobile workers from the VehicleTracker web interface.

Installation

Install the following plugins from the repository update.gpsgate.com

  • Patch.v4
  • Dispatch
  • Mobile
Application setup
  1. Login to SiteAdmin and select your application from the list
  2. Activate all the Dispatch privileges
  3. Save your changes

Login to your VehicleTracker application as an Administrator and activate Dispatch for the Administrator role.

  1. Select Roles from the Admin menu
  2. Select the _Administrator role and enable the privileges for the Dispatch plugin
  3. Save the role
Device and Worker Setups

In Mobile Dispatch a User is both a worker and a vehicle. A new User Type Dispatch unit that acts both as a device and a worker has been added to support this configuration.

If you are using Android devices you should install the GpsGate Tracker for Android for additional functionality. It it used both for Dispatch push notifications and for tracking Android devices.

The following device combinations are supported for Dispatch Mobile:

Android only Android smartphone with GpsGate Tracker App. GpsGate Tracker is used both to track the worker and handle Mobile Dispatch notifications
Device + Android Vehicle mounted tracker and Android smartphone with GpsGate Tracker App. Vehicle is tracked with GPS tracking device. GpsGate Tracker is only used for Mobile Dispatch notifications
Device only Vehicle mounted tracker and any smartphone. Vehicle is tracked with GPS tracking device. No Mobile Dispatch notifications, the option for non-android users

Add new Dispatch units

Login to VehicleTracker as an Administrator and follow these steps to add a new User as a Dispatch unit:

  1. Click on “Add new User” in the Vehicle list
  2. Select the User Type Dispatch unit
  3. Enter a Username, Password and Name (the login details are used by the worker)
  4. Check the Roles “Dispatch Worker” and “_Unit”
  5. Check the Tag “Show on map”
  6. Select Device Type(s) according to your setup
    Android only Device 1: Select Android. Check “Position Source”. Enter worker phone number
    Device 2: Leave this empty
    Device + Android Device 1: Select your GPS tracking device. Check “Position Source”.
    Device 2: Select Android. Uncheck “Position Source”. Enter worker phone number
    Device only Device 1: Select your GPS tracking device. Check “Position Source”.
    Device 2: Leave this empty
  7. Save the User

Edit existing vehicles

Login to VehicleTracker as an Administrator and follow these steps to change an existing User to a Dispatch unit:

  1. Right-click on a vehicle in the Vehicle list and select “Edit User”
  2. Change the User Type to Dispatch unit
  3. Enter a Password in the Details section (the login details are used by the worker)
  4. Check the Roles “Dispatch Worker” and “_Unit”
  5. Check the Tag “Show on map”
  6. Select device type(s) according to your setup
    Android only Device 1: Change to Android. Check “Position Source”. Enter worker phone number
    Device 2: Leave this empty
    Device + Android Device 1: Keep your GPS tracking device. Check “Position Source”.
    Device 2: Select Android. Uncheck “Position Source”. Enter worker phone number
    Device only Device 1: Keep your GPS tracking device. Check “Position Source”.
    Device 2: Leave this empty
  7. Save the User
Setup Dispatch Workspace

It is strongly recommended that you save a Workspace for Dispatch, so that the next time you login you can select your Workspace from the “Workspace” menu.

  1. Open “Dispatch” from the “Windows” menu, re-size and re-arrange the panels to suit your dispatch workflow
  2. Click on “Save as” in the “Workspace” menu and save your current user interface layout as a Workspace
Use Mobile Dispatch

Mobile Dispatch lets you handle jobs assigned to you from any smartphone or tablet. You can accept and reject jobs, mark jobs as complete and route to job locations using a navigation app in the device.

  1. Login as a Dispatch Worker from your mobile device (use the normal url for your server)
  2. Click on the menu tab on the bottom left to bring up the menu panel
  3. Select the “Dispatch” menu to show all jobs that have been dispatched to you. Note that only jobs that have been dispatched to workers are shown
  4. Click on the job description to get more information or click on “Start” to start a job
  5. When you are done with a job, click on “Complete” to mark it completed

The Start and Route button opens the native navigation app to guide you to the job location. The Delete button removes jobs from your device only, the jobs are still saved on the server.

Jobs are marked as yellow stars on the map. You can click once on a star to show the job description and a second time to open the job.

Login from mobile web browser

If you want to login to the mobile application from your desktop browser you can add the /m/ url extension, like ../gpsgateserver/m/
