Asset Protection opens up new business opportunities for GpsGate tracking partners. End users can manage their asset with the mobile application and lock it to a specific area. Alerts will be sent to the phone via push notification, SMS and/or email if the asset is moved outside the locked area.
Asset Protection can be a pre-packaged solution for tracking partners to sell to consumers who own a car, boat or any other valuable asset. The setup for the end user is simple:
- Open box with tracker device and instructions.
- Install tracker device in the asset.
- Download the mobile app for iOS or Android from the store.
- Use the app to scan the QR code in the instructions.
- The tracker device is added to your GpsGate server and the user can manage the asset in the app.
Asset Protection is all about giving users control and a feeling of safety when leaving their asset at a location.
- Queclink GL500
- Queclink GL505
We have a basic Device Definition Template file for these devices. Import it in SiteAdmin -> Import tab -> Select Template in the drop down list.
It has the following configuration:
- Continous mode.
- Sends position update once per day (to save battery).
- When geofence is set (device is locked with the mobile app), motion detection is enabled.
- When device moves outside set geofence it sends position updates more frequently.
You can also integrate other devices yourself by following the Custom device integration with Asset Protection guide.
- Log in to SiteAdmin.
- Go to the Plugins tab.
- Set the Repository URL to: beta.gpsgate.com
- Under My Plugins tab, make sure the Patch.v4 is up to date.
- Install SensorLogic plugin.
- Install Asset Protection plugin.
Services Api Key
To use the Asset Protection feature you need a Services Api Key in SiteAdmin -> Settings tab -> License in the left menu. Contact GpsGate Support and ask for access to the Asset Protection functionality (even if you already have an Api Key).
The mobile application will connect to your server by the hostname you set in SiteAdmin -> Settings tab -> ServerHostname in the left menu. If this field is empty the external IP address of the server will be used.
The first thing you need to do is to import a list of devices that are allowed to be registered by the mobile application and later be added to the server.
Bold columns are required, rest is optional and depends on your providers requirements. Change the other fields to match your devices.
Example CSV format:
imei,phonenumber,devicetype,devicepassword,apn, apnusername, apnpassword
123456789, +123456789, GL500 AP, gl500, provider.domain.com, apnuser, apnpass
Note! The devicetype (marked in red) must be GL500 AP if you imported the Device Definition Template for GL500/GL505 provided in this blog.
If you made your own Custom device integration with Asset Protection the devicetype should be the name of the instance that you created in that guides step 1.
Now import the .csv file:
- Go to SiteAdmin -> Devices tab -> Asset Protection in the left menu.
- Click on Choose file button.
- Select your .csv file.
- Click on Import button.
QR Code & Token
After your .csv file is imported they will be listed in the table. A unique token has been created for each device and the QR code is the image representation of that token. The QR code is scanned by the mobile application to register the device on your GpsGate Server. So the QR code should be distributed to the end user with the matching tracking device.
Download the app from Apple App Store or Google Play Store by searching for Asset Protection. Install the one provided by GpsGate AB. Pictures shown below are from the Android app but the iOS app looks very similar.
Press the Scan QR Code button and scan the QR code generated in SiteAdmin. After doing this a VehicleTracker application will be created on the GpsGate Server and the device will be added to that application.
Waiting for device
This screen is shown when it is waiting for the device to send the first position update to the server.
When the first position is received it will show up on the map with additional information like temperature and battery level.
Locking the Asset
When the lock button is pressed you get a confirmation if you really want to lock the asset. When the asset is locked a geofence is placed around the asset. If the asset moves outside the area it will notify with a push notification to the app and any contacts that have been added in the mobile app. More about contacts below.
From the main screen you can go to your contacts by pressing the button with two persons on it in the top menu. Then add contacts by pressing the button in the upper right corner.
When the asset is locked and moves outside of the area every contact will get a notification via SMS and/or email. If you did not add an email address or phone number to a contact it will not get a notification with that service.
If the asset is locked and moves outside the locked area it will trigger an alert and send a push notification to the app and SMS or email to any contacts added.
To make sure you do not lose your app and contacts you can register an account. With an account you can log in to the same application again if you reinstall the app or if you change phones. Register with an email address and type a strong password and then press Sign up
